The OHADAC project, acronym for the ORGANIZATION FOR THE HARMONIZATION OF BUSINESS LAWS IN THE CARIBBEAN, was created at the Conference of May 15, 2007 in Pointe à Pitre, Guadeloupe. The organization takes its name from the OHADA treaty harmonization business laws which links 16 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and is considered today as an example of integration by the international community.

Co-sponsored by CARICOM, the Caribbean Association of Industry & Commerce (CAIC ), the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, and the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Pointe à Pitre, the Conference of May 15, 2007, benefited from the participation by representatives of many countries of the area, including Mr. Ian RICHARDS, Dominica Minister for Justice, Mr. Hugo RAMIREZ, Director of international negotiations of the Dominican Republic and a special delegate of President Leonel FERNANDEZ, the Secretary of State for Legal Reforms of the Haitian Republic, Mr. Daniel JEAN. Other important participants included representatives from Cuba, Saint Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, Surinam and Venezuela as well as senior lawyers from the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and the United States.
