Successful trip of the OHADAC experts in Venezuela, in particular addressing the Second Meeting on the Harmonization of Business Law in the Caribbean in Maracaibo, Edo. Zulia, May 23-25

Afiche-Umet-tnA delegation of OHADAC experts led by Professor Sixto Sanchez Lorenzo and supported by the ACP Legal Chapter of Venezuela held several meetings in Caracas, at the Metropolitan University (UMET), with leading lawyers from Imery Urdaneta and Tinoco, Travieso, Planchart & Núñez law firms and with the directors of the Arbitration Center of the Caracas Chamber of Commerce.

Accompanied by the ACP Legal Venezuela coordinator in Caracas, Professor Ivette Esis, the delegation was received by Professor Miriam Rodriguez, Director of the School of Law at the Metropolitan University which hosted a talk on the OHADAC project. The members of the organization also met the executive director of the Centre for Arbitration, Diana Droulers, which pointed out the importance of involving the Chambers of Commerce and national arbitration centers in the project of OHADAC Regional Arbitration Court. Carlos Lepervanche, Pedro Jedlicka,-leading arbitrators in Venezuela-, and Pedro Urdaneta, -a renowned expert of comparative law-, among many lawyers, confirmed their support to the regional integration project.

Then the delegation traveled to “the land of sun” to participate in the scheduled activities of the Second Meeting on the Harmonization of Business Law in the Caribbean, which was held on Friday May 25, 2012 in the Great Hall of the Bar, in Maracaibo, State of Zulia, Venezuela, as part of the celebration event of the XII National Meeting of Professors of Private International Law of Venezuela, held the following day in the VIP lounge of the New Headquarters of the University of Zulia.

Organized by the Department of International Law and by the Division of Graduate Studies of the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Zulia, by ACP Legal and its Venezuelan Chapter, the event had, as central speaker, Dr. Sixto Sanchez Lorenzo, Professor of Private International Law at the University of Granada, Spain, accompanied by Dr. Jose Hernan Muriel, Professor of Private International Law at the University Sergio Arboleda of Colombia and founder of ACP Legal Colombia (under registration process), by Mr. Jean Reale, Secretary Coordinator of ACP Legal, Dr. Ivette Esis, Professor of Private International Law at the Metropolitan University of Caracas, Venezuela, and Dr. Yoselyn Bermudez, Professor of Private International Law at the University of Zulia in Venezuela, President of ACP Legal Venezuela.

The event has been attended by over 650 paying participants exceeding the expectations of the organizers and of the master of ceremony, Prof. Lissette Romay from ACP Legal Venezuela.

The conference allowed us to present concrete ways of integrating the business Laws in the Caribbean, particularly concerning contracts for the international sale of goods, arbitration and work methodologies.
