CIArb Caribbean branch: Fourth Triennial Conference (online) 27th and 28th May 2021, Improving the ADR landscape in the Caribbean

The ACP Legal team is delighted to announce that a conference organized by the Caribbean branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) will take place on 27 and 28 May 2021, on the following topic: “Improving the ADR landscape in the Caribbean”.

This conference is organized by the Caribbean branch of the CIArb with the participation of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the following Caribbean players in the field of ADR: the BVI International Arbitration Centre; the Arbitration and Mediation Court of the Caribbean; the CIArb Bahamas Branch; the CIArb Brazil Branch; the Jamaica International Arbitration Centre; the Caribbean ADR Initiative; Dialogue Solutions Ltd; ADR Services Ltd; the Dispute Resolution Foundation and the ACP Legal association, representing the OHADAC project.

This two-day event will be the opportunity to provide an overview of the development and the future of ADR in the Caribbean, and examine the role which the UNCITRAL Model law on International Arbitration; the New York Convention on the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and more generally, the United Nations Conventions play in this context.

A number of personalities will share their views and expertise by participating in panel discussions and open forums, among them Sir Dennis Byron, Patron of the CIArb Caribbean branch and Former President of the Caribbean Court of Justice; Hon. Delroy Chuck, QC, MP, Minister of Justice of Jamaica; Hon. Sir Patterson Cheltenham, QC, Chief Justice of Barbados; John Bassie, CIArb Global President and Chairman of the Dispute Resolution Foundation; Shan Greer, former Chair of the Caribbean branch of the CIArb; Calvin Hamilton, Chair of the CIArb Barbados Chapter; and Miles Weekes, Chair of the Caribbean branch of the CIArb.

Dr. Marie-Camille Pitton, French Avocat and attorney at law (New York), Consultant to ACP Legal on the OHADAC project, will chair the panel on the UNCITRAL model law as a basis for the harmonization and improvement of national laws.
