4th Biennale Conference of the Caribbean Academy for Law and Court Administration in partnership with ACP Legal Association (OHADAC) - St. Maarten, 27-29 October 2016

26 03 2017

affiche-enWe are pleased to inform you of the 4th Biennale Conference of the Caribbean Academy for Law and Court Administration (CALCA 2016) scheduled to take place at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Casino in Sint Maarten from the 27 to 29 October 2016. This year CALCA has partnered with the ACP Legal Association (OHADAC) and the General Legal Council of Jamaica (GLC) under the theme “Law at the cross-roads: Reappraising the Role of Common Law and Civil Law Practitioners in Transnational Development”.

CALCA 2016 has been organised with a multijurisdictional orientation, spanning both the common law and civil law traditions, and will have presentations from distinguished regional and international jurists who will facilitate plenary and concurrent breakout sessions over two days.

The conference discussions include topics that should prove critical to legal professionals, regulators, government officials, business and trade development professionals, and experts working in the financial sector.

The OHADAC project team of experts will be represented at the conference. After the success of the OHADAC Convention held in Guadeloupe the 21 and 22 September 2015, ACP Legal seizes this opportunity to re-introduce the OHADAC Project and its harmonized legal instruments to the learned Caribbean legal practitioners.

The conference is among the first concrete outputs of the Agreement between the CCJ signed last month at the Court's headquarters in Port of Spain. ACP Legal and the organizing committee believe that the conference will be enhanced by the discussion of the harmonization of commercial laws and the possible impact on regional trade.
