The next Ibero-American Summit will take place on 18 and 19 October in Panama, said the president of the Central American country, H.E. Ricardo Martinelli.
The XXIII Iberoamerican community Summit coincides with a time when Panama commemorates the discovery of the South Sea by the Spanish Vasco Núñez de Balbao and the Congress of Spanish language.
Martinelli said that Panama has proposed that the next summit to focus “on the economic, political, social and cultural development of the Latin American community in the global context”.
The Panamanian President stressed that next year will be for his country “of great importance for all the things that will happen”, among which he highlighted the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the South Sea.
For this reason “we will honor this illustrious Spanish, Vasco Nunez de Balboa, who made both Panama and the world with the discovery” of the sea, which opened to international trade.
“Sure that the summit will be of great benefit and together we will be able to have a better Latin America”, said Martinelli, who received from King Juan Carlos the witness of the preparation of the next appointment, which could be the last with the current annual format.
